That switchback is the connecting trail between PCT and Soda Mountain.

It’s crazy how steady the climb is to the top once you reach the road.

Date: 5/20/16
Hike Difficulty: moderate
Hike Length: 4.09 mi roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 817 ft
Highest Point: 6089 ft
Time: 1 hr 26 mins

My Rating (out of 5): 4.5 – This is by far the easier way to get to Soda Mountain and I found it once before last fall. I’ve been back to this same section of the PCT about 3 times in the past few weeks, but each time, I somehow missed the turnoff for Soda Mountain. This time, though it was covered in snow, I finally found the path again. It had a big tree covering it!

To get to Soda Mountain from the PCT, start at the Hobart Bluff trailhead. Then, head the opposite direction on the PCT for about 1.1 miles. There should be a small trail marker that indicates a turnoff to the sharp left. This trail connects to the Soda Mountain trail, which is really just a rough road used by USFS workers. From there, it’s about .74 miles to the top of Soda Mountain. It offers views of Pilot Rock, Boccard Point, Mt. Shasta, and the Irongate Reservoir. Enjoy the snowy pics!
